A brief history of Braviken
In 1954, the last paper machine was installed on the island of Kvarnholmen in central Norrköping. The location was essentially the same as the one where operations got under way in 1609. When, for various reasons, it was no longer possible to expand in central Norrköping, the natural move was to shift operations to a site just outside town. Braviken was the result. The last paper machine on Kvarnholmen was shut down in 1986.
Braviken opened its doors in 1977, and the mill's second paper machine was on line by 1985, one year before operations were shut down in central Norrköping. From 1994 to 1996, the Braviken paper mill expanded rapidly. Production capacity increased from 440,000 to about 700,000 tonnes annually. The expansion included installation of a new paper machine, the PM 53. Since coming on line, the machine has held the world production speed record on several different occasions.
