FSC and PEFC

Since the summer of 2007 Holmen Paper Hallsta has been certified to produce FSC environmentally labelled paper. Braviken joined them in summer 2008.

In the first instance, Holmen Paper Hallsta will manufacture book paper in accordance with the FSC standard. The process of obtaining environmental certification for Hallsta's production in accordance with FSC and PEFC started at the beginning of 2007, and Hallsta has now received certification from both councils.

Facts about FSC and PEFC
  • FSC - Forest Stewardship Council

FSC stands for the Forest Stewardship Council and is an international forestry standard that works to ensure that the world’s forests are used in an acceptable way, environmentally, socially and financially. Around 10% of the world's forests are currently certified. For producers like Braviken and Hallsta, it is important that fibres in a FSC paper can be traced back along the production chain and that everyone involved in all of the stages follow the requirements set for the FSC label.

  • PEFC - for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes

The PEFC, Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes, is an international forestry standard. In Sweden this standard is more or less identical to FSC, and 7.5 million hectares of forestry land have been certified in accordance with PEFC.
